Plakias is situated at the foot of a 900m mountain, the land being rich with streams and rivers owed to it's geography. The surrounding olive trees offer shade and great picnic patches to those out on a hot summer adventure.

The famous palm beach Preveli is just few kilometres away and can be accessed only by boat or on foot, thus retaining its beauty.

The Holy Monastery of Preveli is one of the most beautiful places to be seen throughout Greece and is a must for all visitors. Roads to the monastery are asphalt and the journey is picturesque. A stop off half way to see the Preveli bridge with its fresh waters is a great place to take a refreshment and check out the wildlife.
Small boat trips can be taken from the harbour to a variety of beaches. The Aegean waters are also great for those wishing to dive or take a diving course, there is a diving school in the centre of Plakias for the adventurous.

There are a number of gorges that can be explored, namely Koutaliotiko which has waters until early summer and again in early autumn. Further west is the Imbros gorge which is very popular amongst locals and visitors.
